May, the award-winning author and poet visited his hometown of Racine
in celebration of his recent gift of collected works to the Racine
"While they were here, he and his wife Nonny
Hogrogian (an award-winning illustrator/artist) met with people
throughout the community, as Kherdian gave readings and presentations
throughout the week. The connections the couple made during that time
convinced them to pull up their New York state roots and move to the
city where Kherdian grew up in the 1930s and 40s.
an arts community here that is active, alive and progressive,' said
Kherdian, whose work has been published in more than a dozen languages
around the world.
"'And we feel like we have something to give back to the community, so that maybe someone else can grow from it.'"
