"BREAKING NEWS! CITY BONDING FOR $46 MILLION
DOLLARS FOR FANTASY ARENA! CAUSING SERIOUS CONCERN OF BANKRUPTCY FOR
RESIDENTS AND THE CITY OF RACINE.
"RACINE MAYOR JOHN DICKERT WILL BE ATTEMPTING TO BORROW $46 MILLION
DOLLARS VIA MUNICIPAL BONDS, TO FUND A FANTASY ARENA WITH NO PLAN AND NO
INPUT FROM COMMUNITY RESIDENTS! IT SPELLS CERTAIN DISASTER FOR THE CITY
AND ITS RESIDENTS. "Borrowing over $46 million dollars would be borrowing more than half
of the City Of Racine’s yearly budget! The City Of Racine recently lost
over $15 million taxpayer dollars on the failed Machinery Row
development and also $800 thousand taxpayer dollars when it forgot who
it made a city loan to.
"Mayor Dickert told the Journal Times on Tuesday, 'We couldn’t put the
arena funding in this budget for a variety of reasons,' Dickert said. 'Number one, we haven’t presented (the plan) to the council. Number two,
we don’t have the package ready yet. "Dickert said the city will find a way to move the project forward 'whether we have partners or not.' After the speech, he confirmed that
that remark alluded to Racine County’s perceived lack of support for the
plan. "'The message we got from the county was that they’re not interested,' he said. "Added Dickert: 'We’re going to move forward. We’re going to figure out a way to make it happen.'"
